Buying Guide · Sizing
NBA jerseys do not share one size scale. Men’s, women’s and youth jerseys each run their own set of labels, and picking from the wrong family is the single most common reason a jersey gets returned. Here is how the three actually work.
What sizes do NBA jerseys come in?
There are three separate size families. Men’s jerseys run XS through XXXL, and selected styles add 4XL and 5XL. Women’s jerseys run XXS through XXXL with a shaped women’s cut. Youth jerseys use age bands instead of letters, from 3-4 all the way to 17-18.
Because older-season styles can differ slightly from current ones, always confirm against the size selector on the jersey you are actually buying — every option that style offers is listed right there.
Men’s sizing: XS through XXXL
The default family, and the one every style is built around.
Jerseys are cut loose by design. They are meant to sit over a t-shirt without pulling across the chest, which means a men’s large jersey fits like a relaxed large rather than a fitted one. Take your usual size. Size up only if you want a noticeably baggier look, or if you plan to wear it over a hoodie once the weather turns.
| Size | Approx. chest (in) | What it suits |
|---|---|---|
| XS | 32 - 34 | Very slim builds, or older kids moving up |
| S | 36 - 38 | Slim builds |
| M | 40 - 42 | The most commonly ordered men’s size |
| L | 44 - 46 | Roomy through the chest and shoulders |
| XL | 48 - 50 | Broad shoulders, or extra room over layers |
| XXL | 52 - 54 | Relaxed fit with a longer body |
| XXXL | 56 - 58 | The largest standard men’s size |
| 4XL / 5XL | 60 and up | On selected styles only |
Sizes above XXXL exist on a subset of styles rather than the whole range. If you need one, start from a specific jersey and check its selector rather than assuming it is offered.
Women’s sizing: XXS through XXXL
Similar numbers on the label, a different garment underneath.
A women’s jersey is not simply a smaller men’s jersey. It is cut with a narrower shoulder, a shaped waist and a shorter body, so it reads fitted rather than boxy. The range also starts at XXS, so it reaches sizes below the smallest men’s option.
If you prefer the straighter, longer line of a men’s jersey, order from the men’s family instead — plenty of people do, and it usually means taking one size below your usual. If you want the shaped silhouette, stay in women’s sizing and order your normal size.
| Size | Approx. chest (in) | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| XXS | 28 - 30 | Below the smallest men’s size |
| XS | 30 - 32 | Petite frames |
| S | 32 - 34 | Fitted through the waist |
| M | 36 - 38 | The most commonly ordered women’s size |
| L | 40 - 42 | Relaxed fit |
| XL | 44 - 46 | Roomier cut |
| XXL | 48 - 50 | Shaped, not straight |
| XXXL | 52 - 54 | The largest women’s size |

Youth sizing: 3-4 through 17-18
Numbers here mean an age band, not a measurement.
Youth jerseys are labelled by the age range they are built for, which makes them far easier to buy for someone else. A 3-4 is built for a three-to-four-year-old; a 17-18 is essentially a young adult size. When a kid sits between two bands, the larger one is almost always the better call — a jersey that is slightly roomy gets worn for two seasons, and one that is slightly small gets worn for none.
| Size | Built for | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 3-4 | Approx. ages 3 to 4 | The smallest jersey in the range |
| 7-8 | Approx. ages 7 to 8 | Fits most younger grade-school kids |
| 9-10 | Approx. ages 9 to 10 | Room to grow for the year ahead |
| 11-12 | Approx. ages 11 to 12 | The most commonly bought youth size |
| 13-14 | Approx. ages 13 to 14 | Approaching adult proportions |
| 15-16 | Approx. ages 15 to 16 | Often the last size before moving to XS |
| 17-18 | Approx. ages 17 to 18 | The largest youth size available |
Toddler and infant sizes exist on a smaller number of styles, using month and T labels such as 12MO, 18MO, 2T and 3T. Those are worth hunting for specifically if you are buying for the youngest fan in the family.

Choosing between the three families
- Buy men’s sizing for the classic straight, loose jersey cut and the widest range of teams and seasons.
- Buy women’s sizing for a narrower shoulder and a shaped waist, and for sizes below XS.
- Buy youth sizing for anyone still growing — the numbers track age rather than measurements.
- Check the size selector on the exact jersey before ordering. Older-season styles can differ.
- Adding a custom name does not change sizing, so order the fit first and worry about the name second.

Sizing questions
What sizes do NBA jerseys come in?
Men’s jerseys run XS to XXXL with selected styles offering 4XL and 5XL. Women’s jerseys run XXS to XXXL. Youth jerseys use age bands from 3-4 through 17-18. Always confirm on the size selector of the jersey you want, because older-season styles can differ.
Should I size up for an NBA jersey?
Usually not. Jerseys are already cut loose and meant to sit over another shirt, so your normal t-shirt size is normally the right pick. Size up only if you want a baggier silhouette or plan to layer it over a hoodie.
What does a youth size like 13-14 mean?
Youth jerseys are labelled by age band rather than measurements. A 13-14 is built for roughly a thirteen-to-fourteen-year-old, and 15-16 and 17-18 follow the same logic up to near-adult proportions.
Is a women’s jersey just a smaller men’s jersey?
No. A women’s jersey has a narrower shoulder, a shaped waist and a shorter body. If you prefer the straighter, longer cut, order from the men’s size family instead and consider going one size down.
Should I buy the larger size for a child who is growing?
Yes. When a child sits between two youth sizes, the larger one nearly always works better. A jersey that is slightly roomy gets worn for two seasons, while one that is slightly small tends not to get worn at all.
Do custom names affect sizing?
No. Adding your own name or choosing a blank jersey changes what is printed on the back, not how the jersey is cut. Pick the size first and decide on the name afterwards.
Where can I check exact measurements?
The size options offered by any given jersey are listed in the size selector on its product page. This store also keeps a size chart and a size guide linked from the footer for reference.
Three families, one decision
Pick the family first — men’s for the classic cut, women’s for a shaped fit and smaller sizes, youth for anyone still growing — then take your usual size within it. If it is a gift and you are unsure, men’s sizing is the safest default, and the options list on every product page tells you exactly what that jersey offers.
